  • A wandering, rambling rant from Betsy (posted here by Brian)...

(And, yes, she correctly points out that we also solicited songs in this previous post.)

Do you guys even read your blog? Because I gave you like 10 suggestions! Are you trying to say that my suggestions suck? Are you trying to say in front of everyone else that hey, we recognize Betsy gave us some high quality suggestions but we are choosing NOT to listen to ANYTHING she says!! Not only that, but we hear that she drinks maple syrup STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTLE and DOESN'T WEAR DEORORANT.

In fact, if you doubt this, please refer to your posting in November about suggestions for music and readings to which I gave you 11 HIGH QUALITY SUGGESTIONS......jeezz.....

As you may or may not realize, I was trying to rival Brad on his sarcastic nature. I may or may not have succeeded at that. That and for whatever reason, my concussion is making me say all kinds of weird things today....

I LOVE YOU BOTH SO MUCH!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S LESS THAN # MONTHS AWAY!!!

    love you-bjb

  • Hi guys - here are a few suggestions:

There's a great CD called "Jazz 'Round Midnight" by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Our first dance was to "Under a Blanket of Blue" - a really great song - but the entire album is fantastic. You should just get the CD - it's nice to sit and listen to it late at night with a glass of wine. And there are some good "dancing" songs there too. One of my all time favorite CDs. You can listen to some of the songs on this website above.

For party songs at the reception, we used some Will Smith ditties. Fun for the younger crowd but not so raunchy that the older people will think you're heathens.

For pre-wedding music, we chose a selection of Bach, etc. but one part I really liked was a classical guitar version of "Here There Everywhere" by the Beatles. And classical guitar in general is so nice....I'm sure you could find a nice classical guitar CD. In fact, there's one here on Amazon I found (insert advertisement for Amazon here.... :) but it looks like you can't listen to the tracks. If you like classical guitar also check out Andres Segovia who's one of the masters.

Let's see.....what else. . . . for our processional we chose Sleepers Awake by Bach. You can hear some of it on this page - Disc 1, track 6. Some advice, though, is to test, test, and retest the sound system where you are holding the processional. Ours had a blip in the middle of this beautiful song when I was just starting to walk down the aisle. I was still teary-eyed by the end but it was a bit of a bummer.

.....and the one song I would have loved to highlight more - but we couldn't find the sheet music to it - was "If It's Magic" by Stevie Wonder. If I'd had my way, I would have asked some guy friend to sing this with a harpist as the accompaniment - for the unity candle or something. It would have been awesome. Since we were married, I think they've come out with the harp music for it. You can here a touch of the song here, but this clip doesn't do it justice. See here for the lyrics.

Okay, those are my top five. Feel free to use or toss any of this advice. Now that I look back, turns out this is five ideas for you - the top five in my books.

I hope all is well. We are really looking forward to joining you for your big day!

    Liz
